BlueVNA version 2.0 is now available in Play Store

Post by yo3ggx »

Hello everybody,

I've just published in Play Store a new version of BlueVNA application. This one include a lot of new features and bug fixes. As some routines were fully redesigned, it may still contain some bugs, so I count on your feedback to solve them as soon as possible.

What's new comparing with the previous Play Store version (0.9.6):
• full screen (immersive mode) with Android >= KitKat - navigation buttons are now hidden
• fully redesigned XLCR mode with auto detection
• make all saved files visible in Windows explorer immediately (no more Android restart required)
• Progress Bar control changed, to be compliant with some non-standard Android devices
• in the startup page, there is no more a virtual led. The color of the START button changes now based on connection status
• second marker added, automatically calculating deltas
• better response for marker movement
• delta F display in minSWR window for SWR=2 and SWR=3
• "Loss" button label changed to "Atten" in transmission mode
• you can now set the attenuation scale manually in transmission mode (30, 60 or 90dB)
• automatically calculate filter parameters in transmission mode (experimental)
• a message is displayed if the calibration file is invalid when loaded
• in transmission mode if you long press on Attn button, the two markers are automatically set for a user adjustable Loss (through a Seek Bar)
• display pass number in the calibration status window
• auto RL scale for Reflection mode too
• In-app purchase if you like the application and you want to support further development

Bugs solved:
o markers remaining on the screen in the right position even if you extend the screen
o calibration broken in 0.9.6 (cannot use a new calibration)
o files saved with version < 0.9.5-1 are loaded incorrectly
o X-tal mode now works with miniVNA Standard too (use min Xs instead of Xs passing through 0 for miniVNA standard
o Smith chart overlapping buttons if device display format is 4/3 (ex. 1024x768)
o if miniVNA Standard and loading an* invalid calibration file for transmission, you are asking to do an Open instead of Loop calibration (Open calibration is not available in transmission mode for miniVNA Standard
o errors if loading an incompatible file

The updated online guide is available here(multilingual):
https://www.yo3ggx.ro/bluevna/doc20/index.html
or as a pdf file (English only):

with the online user guide:

Hi everybody,

A new version of BlueVNA is available in Play Store (2.0.2).
This one fix some bugs:
- stay awake does not work. By default, stay awake is now on. You can control this through a long press on the app name in the top of the startup page.
If stay awake is on, the text is in yellow. If off, the text is white. Stay awake will prevent your device to go to standby after the timeout set in the Android Display settings section.
- auto scale for return loss does not work.
As always, please send me your feedback if you try the new version.

Hello Dan,

I was used for more than 10 years the first miniVNA by windows XP with pleasure.
Now I have since yesterday the Pro 2 and runs by 10.1 Pro Samsung tablet or Samsung Note 5 phone. (Blue Tooth).
I bought this Pro2 device because it runs from 0.01 to 230 MHz. (mRS Specs)
Many things are different, but i have to learn it of course.

Like i wrote already to you about the strange measurements i see from 0 to 0.3 MHz. by connected 50 Ohm dummy load.
I will hope there is an explanation for that, so we can solve this problem.

One thing i missed on the Android version is the sweep function, maybe it's somewhere behind a hidden button?
My old minivna by Windows XP had a fast sweep every second, so i had a real time picture by tuning filters or antenna adjustments.

Hi Hans,

Currently miniVNA Pro2 is not fully supported, as I don't have one yet, but I hope to receive one soon.
There is a Live function in BlueVNA allowing you to do faster continuous sweeps. Just long press on RUN button.

To learn all the "hidden" features (you will find many), I recommend you to read the application user guide available online here:
https://www.yo3ggx.ro/bluevna/doc20/index.html
or as a PDF file here:

Hi Dan,

I`m using your software v2.0.2 together with my vnaTiny, and have experienced that after using the generator-mode, the device still broadcast until you perform a measurement like reflection.
So if you used generator-mode once, and exit the program the device still broadcasting!…until you disconnect the usb-cable.
I have tested this on 3-difference android devices with the same results, even tried on all devices with new initializations, I suspect that the “stop”-command in generator mode is not working like it should be, if the “stop” command is given in the software you can see the “orange-led” is blinking for a sort time…
hope this information will help you find the problem.
Beside that I have not found important minors in the software , I’m still very much pleased the way the software is performing with the present and past android based devices.

Hi Luc,

I will check this and if a bug, I will include a patch in the next release scheduled for the end of this month (support added for miniVNA Pro 2).
