Hi y'all,
When I open the jAReC v.08 application and click on the Serial Port or Baud Rate buttons an error window appears saying "Java Platform SE binary is not responding".
I'm running Windows 10 on a new Dell Inspiron 15 i5548-1670SLV laptop with 8GB of ram and a 1TB HDD. I've tried installing the Java Runtime Environment using all of the different options (32- and 64-bit, installing as Administrator / not as Administrator) and nothing makes any difference - Java always hangs up when I try to setup the jAReC v.08 window.
Can anyone please help?
Kind thanks,
Mark KF5VQY
Java Platform Not Responding
Re: Java Platform Not Responding
Hi Mark,
This is a known bug in Windows 10 with Java 1.8.0_51 and 1.8.0_60 in conjunction with Java FX 2.0 on some Intel HD4xxx devices (epecially mobile version).
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8132897
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3178 ... obox-error
The app crash if you click on a checkbox which does not have the focus.
Till Oracle and/or Intel will solve the problem please use TAB key on the keiboard to select first the combo box you want to modify, then you will be able to click on it.
Thank you for your understanding,

Re: Java Platform Not Responding
Thank you very much, Dan, that got me past the problem.
By the way, my graphics is Intel HD5500 so apparently the issue affects some of those devices too.
Thanks again and 73,

Re: Java Platform Not Responding
Hi Mark,
Good to hear that the workaround solved the issue.
The issue seems to affect only Intel HD mobile version as I have a desktop PC with i5 an HD4000 which is not affected by this issue, but on my Vaio i5/HD4400/Windows 10 the problem exists.
Thank you.

Re: Java Platform Not Responding
As I tried to run the Java applet in WinXP with Java 7.xx I had the same problem. Other Javas run perfect, but this one doesn't start. Is there any info for XP ? Java doesn't accept to install the higher version 8.x under XP.
Re: Java Platform Not Responding
Hi,
Did you get any error when starting jAReC in Windows XP?
I've prepared a command line version of jAReC, named jAReCmini. You will be able to run this version even on a system without GUI and eventually make it to run as a service.
I will post it later today or tomorrow on my web site.

Re: Java Platform Not Responding
Hi Dan,
what a quick response, thank you. There is no error message, it just doesn't start and leaves where it is, even when trying to start on the command line. So I will wait for your other version.

Re: Java Platform Not Responding
Hi Rolf,
I've checked right now jAReC 0.8 on a Windows XP computer.
You can install Java 1.8.0_60, even if you get a warning that is not supported. This message is normal, as Windows XP is not supported at all.
Take it from here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/
The application works for me as expected on the Windows XP computer with jre 1.8.0_60
Can you please check on your system too?
Thank you,
